Like you, we prefer to keep things simple, yet effective. Our Aussie web design philosophy is to go easy on graphics, preferring plain text as it is faster to download on phones, easier to maintain… and of course, the all-important Google can read it.
All our Australian websites are made with responsive, mobile-friendly web designs. We will respond to your existing marketing materials, not impose our own preferences on your website. We will not try to sell you a “new look” or logo, or use fonts that are outside your existing typefaces… you have worked hard to establish that identity and we will not dilute it.
We will ask you about your customers. Who they are? What is their age group? What queries they have on the phone. We will strive to give you a design that meets these customer’s needs, rather than those of casual site visitors who are never going to buy your product.
What We Don’t Do
We don’t do bogus link pages or link trades that offer no value to your customers. We don’t do splash pages that require an “enter” click to get into the site proper, we don’t frame other people’s web content, we don’t do automated pop-ups, we don’t open separate browser windows… in other words, we don’t do things to your website visitors that we hate having done to us.
The Website Design Process
- We discuss your website ideas on the phone. This is the time to tell us what your product or service is all about and what you hope to achieve with an Australian website for your business. We ask you what you consider is special about your product or business and what extra or exceptional things we need to be aware of (e.g. trademark issues). We also discuss inputs: text, photos, logos, your Australian domain names… all the elements that will go into making your business web site. We decide who will provide which inputs. Sometimes DWS will take the photos for your site, or we recommend a photographer. We also write the text or create logos where needed*.
- You are emailed a website quote from Xero. The web site quote details what we discussed at the initial meeting and confirms a price for you to budget on.
- If you wish to proceed with developing your new website, click the button to “accept” the quote and pay a 50% deposit (by credit card or bank deposit).
- After we receive your website deposit and inputs, we register your preferred Aussie domain name, delegate it to our website servers and set up WordPress, the world’s best and most installed content management system for websites.
- Using text and pictures supplied by you, we create new website pages and any special functions like forms, product catalogues, image galleries and social networking integration.
- For design, sometimes people choose an off-the-shelf WordPress theme or we supply one of ours. In either case, the colour scheme of your new website is coordinated with your current branding.
- Once the web site is complete we ask for your review on a mobile phone, tablet and desktop as your new web site will support all these devices. The finer points are ironed out during this review.
- We do WordPress training, often via the use of WordPress tutorial videos that you can watch as many times as you like.
- Finally, we send out an invoice. 15-day payment terms.
What if I want future website changes?
We value ongoing relationships with our website owners, so we will not wave goodbye once your website has been built. Down the track, if changes are required to your WordPress website or if new sections or information are added to your site, then we are more than happy to help out with this. These edits are charged at $95 per hour plus GST. After about 3 months, we turn our attention to search engine marketing and linking building. This service is complex and is quoted separately.
